Spectrum 48K Game & Watch emulator supports 18 Nintendo titles

Donkey Kong, Mario Bros. and Oil Panic feature among the supported handhelds, while Munchy runs without an external ROM.

Supratim Sanyal of SANYALnet Labs has released a Game & Watch emulator for the ZX Spectrum 48K. Version 1.0.0 arrived on 6th November 2026, supporting 18 Nintendo handheld titles alongside the new maze game Munchy.

Original Nintendo ROMs are not included. Each of the 18 titles requires a compatible 4 KB game ROM from the player’s own collection. Munchy and an included demonstration program are self-contained.

The supported games span Nintendo’s Wide Screen, Multi Screen and Super Color ranges. They include Donkey Kong, Mario Bros., Oil Panic, Donkey Kong Jr., Mario’s Cement Factory, Spitball Sparky and Crab Grab.

Supratim describes the project as emulation of the Sharp SM510 microcontroller in Z80 assembly. The Spectrum executes the handhelds’ original programs, rather than rewritten versions of their game logic. The project supplies screen graphics drawn for the Spectrum.

Munchy adds an original LCD-style maze game with its own graphics, sounds, clock and alarm. It has two difficulty modes.

The release provides TZX tape files for the Spectrum 48K and compatible emulators, along with documentation. A Python 3 utility converts compatible ROM images into the additional tape files required by the Nintendo titles.

The downloads and supported ROM details are available on the creator’s itch.io page and the version 1.0.0 release page.
