Double Dragon Zeebo reaches Mega Drive with a second release already available

Carachapadu’s conversion has English, Portuguese and Spanish downloads, with a new music set and fixes for two stages.

Double Dragon Zeebo: MD is available for Mega Drive, bringing the Zeebo version of the brawler to Sega’s 16-bit console. Developer carachapadu published the project on 23rd October, followed by Version 2 on 24th October with fixes for crashes, weapon collisions and damage recovery.

The conversion has been in development since 2025. Carachapadu says it became a project to switch to while taking a break from another port, and that its simpler design allowed work to progress further. The project is tagged for SGDK, the development toolkit used to create Mega Drive software.

This is a conversion of the Zeebo game, rather than another attempt to reproduce the original arcade release. Brizo Interactive’s 2009 remake was published by Tectoy for the download-only console, a machine sold primarily in Brazil and Mexico. Its campaign expanded the arcade game’s four missions to six and introduced different stages, enemies and music.

Double Dragon’s story still centres on Billy and Jimmy Lee and Marian’s kidnapping by the Black Warriors. The Mega Drive project follows a later interpretation of that familiar setting, with an expanded repertoire of attacks.

Version 2 fixes crashes in stages three and four and corrects collision detection for the whip and baseball bat. It also adds a death animation and adjusts the recovery time after taking damage.

The audio has received a broader revision: every music track has been replaced with a new arrangement featuring more instruments.

English, Portuguese and Spanish editions are available as separate ZIP downloads on a name-your-own-price basis. The Portuguese archive is listed at 1.1 MB, with the English and Spanish files at 1.2 MB each.

The itch.io page remains marked as in development. In response to a question about completeness, carachapadu says the current demo reaches the ending and includes credits for the original creators.

The current files and update notes are available on the Double Dragon Zeebo: MD project page.
