Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis have received fan-made AGA enhancements for the Amiga 1200. Developer dlfrsilver has released versions featuring 256-colour graphics and revised audio, adapting material from the PC editions.
The work modifies the original Amiga SCUMM engine to handle an eight-bitplane display, according to dlfrsilver. Both LucasArts adventures already appeared on Amiga, so these releases revisit their presentation on AGA hardware. AI assistance formed part of the development process.
Monkey Island 2 follows Guybrush Threepwood’s search for the treasure of Big Whoop after his earlier confrontation with LeChuck. His enemy returns in zombie form, placing the pirate’s treasure hunt alongside another encounter with his old adversary. Along the way, Guybrush encounters voodoo dolls and a spitting contest among the puzzles and diversions standing between him and his goal.
Fate of Atlantis takes Indiana Jones into a separate story set in 1939, with Nazi agents pursuing the secrets of Atlantis. LucasArts released the adventure in 1992, offering three different paths through its story. Its iMUSE system provides a musical score responsive to play, connecting the soundtrack to events during the adventure.
The new audio system uses six voices, combining two hardware voices with four mixed in software. The release report describes music and effects drawn from the PC Sound Blaster versions, including tracks absent from the original Amiga releases. Adapting one nine-voice Iceland piece reportedly took two days.
Hardware requirements and early performance reports
The listed minimum specification is a 68020 processor, 8 MB of Fast RAM and a hard drive. A 68060 is recommended. These requirements sit alongside the AGA graphics requirement, so owners should check their processor, memory expansion and storage before installing either release.
In a follow-up comment, dlfrsilver specifies a 14MHz 68020 and calls for the PFS3 filesystem. The developer reports testing on both 68020 and 68030 systems, describing satisfactory speed on each.
Early performance feedback differs. Some commenters report slow play on those processors, while another describes the games as playable on a 68060. These are separate user reports rather than controlled comparisons, so the minimum specification should not be read as a promise of identical performance across setups.
Both releases have English, French, German, Italian and Spanish downloads. The English Fate of Atlantis release also has a separately listed updated executable, worth checking alongside the main archive when preparing an installation.
