Infested DX will reach Steam on 27th October 2026, rebuilding GrahfMetal’s space-horror adventure with expanded locations and a new 16-bit visual treatment. Komi Games is publishing the Windows PC release, priced at $9.99, and a free demo is already available.
The announcement dates to 15th October. It sets the release ahead of Halloween, with the demo giving players an early look at the revised adventure before the full version arrives.
Jeff Canam, who works as GrahfMetal, created the original Infested in 2016. The DX edition revisits its stranded-astronaut premise after his work as a co-developer on Beyond Shadowgate, which released in 2024. Steam credits both GrahfMetal and Komi Games as developers of the new edition, alongside Komi’s publishing role.
GrahfMetal names the NES versions of Shadowgate, Déjà Vu and Uninvited as inspirations. Those adventures put illustrated rooms, inventory puzzles and abrupt deaths at the centre of their presentation. Infested moves that approach from haunted houses and mysteries to an alien infestation aboard a spaceship.
In the revised game, the surviving astronaut must find a cure for an infection and a route home. The ship contains hostile creatures and environmental hazards, while the wider journey also reaches alien worlds. The central problem is escape, with investigation and puzzle-solving shaping the route through the disaster.
Zombies, mutants, robots and alien pathogens feature in the Steam description. Rather than pitching combat as the solution, the game centres on examining surroundings and finding uses for objects. Its first-person viewpoint serves the puzzle adventure, placing rooms and objects at the centre of the investigation.
A larger return to the original Infested
The DX rebuild expands the story and adds rooms and puzzles. Its visual overhaul moves from the original’s 8-bit aesthetic towards 16-bit pixel art, with additional animations and dynamic elements. These changes accompany an expanded adventure rather than a straight rerelease of the old download.
Komi Games describes a campaign lasting around three hours, designed with replayability and speedrunning in mind.
Controller support, quicksaving and accessibility options join the revised presentation. Steam also lists achievements and cloud saves. The store description says deaths do not remove progress, keeping experimentation part of the game’s puzzle structure without requiring a fresh start after every fatal mistake.
The original credits name Jeff for design, story and art, Jason Canam for programming, and Orie Falconer for music. Infested remains available separately through GrahfMetal’s itch.io page for Windows and macOS. The forthcoming DX edition’s Steam listing specifies Windows.
The Steam edition lists English interface text and subtitles. Its minimum requirements include a 64-bit dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 50MB of storage, with Windows 10 specified as the starting point for operating-system support.
The Infested DX Steam page hosts the demo and wishlist option. GrahfMetal also offers the original Infested on itch.io.
