UrbX Warriors: The Lost City is heading deeper into 16-bit territory, with new versions in development for Amiga AGA, Amiga CD32 and Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. The latest Kickstarter has already passed its £18,888 target, taking a game that began on the ZX Spectrum Next onto two families of hardware that sit right at the heart of the era its creators know so well.
The campaign has already moved beyond £36,000 with more than 570 backers, and funding remains open until 17th September 2026. Digital and physical editions are planned, with the Amiga and Mega Drive versions currently expected in 2027.
The names behind the project are a big part of the appeal. Tony Warriner co-founded Revolution Software and worked on games including Beneath a Steel Sky and Lure of the Temptress, while Stoo Cambridge’s 16-bit history includes Cannon Fodder and Sensible World of Soccer.
Built by people who know their 16-bit hardware
That background gives the new versions an extra layer of interest. This is not a modern indie game being given a retro-looking skin and pushed onto old hardware as an afterthought. Tony and Stoo are returning to machines from an era they actually helped shape, joined by Ruslan Kudriachenko on the 16-bit development.
The music side carries its own pedigree too, with Allister Brimble and Richard Faulkner involved. Allister in particular needs little introduction to Amiga owners, having contributed music to a long list of games during the machine’s commercial life.
UrbX Warriors: The Lost City itself is an arcade-RPG built around action, exploration and puzzles, following urban explorers Alejandro and Ramona after they become trapped beneath an ancient site. Two-player co-op is part of the 16-bit edition, while the wider project continues to grow beyond its original Spectrum Next roots.

The first Kickstarter, covering the PC and ZX Spectrum Next versions, is already complete. It ended in 2025 with £41,449 from 848 backers against a £6,000 goal, giving Tony and Stoo considerably more room to develop the project than they originally asked for.
The current campaign is a separate push for the Amiga and Mega Drive generation. On the Commodore side, support covers AGA machines and CD32, while Sega owners are getting a dedicated Mega Drive and Genesis edition rather than a generic emulated release.
Physical ownership is also a major part of the campaign. Brazen Gameplay is offering boxed editions alongside digital versions and has been outspoken about wanting players to own the games they buy rather than depend entirely on storefront access that can disappear later.
That argument lands particularly well in retro gaming, where cartridges, discs, manuals and boxes are still part of the attraction decades after the original machines left shop shelves. A brand-new game arriving on physical media for Amiga and Mega Drive feels less like nostalgia and more like those platforms continuing to have a life of their own.

Brazen Gameplay has also stated that UrbX Warriors: The Lost City is being developed without generative AI, DLC or in-app purchases. The stated aim is a complete game that can be bought, kept and played on the hardware it was designed for.
The Spectrum Next branch is still active too. A recent 1.30 demo update changed the way crumbling floors behave, allowing them to rebuild after a short period if the player remains nearby, so the move into 16-bit development has not meant leaving the original version behind.
What started as a new game for the Spectrum Next has therefore become something much broader: a retro project spanning Sinclair, Commodore and Sega hardware, with creators whose careers run directly through the history of the machines involved. That combination of new development and old-school experience makes this Kickstarter especially easy to keep an eye on.
The Amiga and Mega Drive editions are currently planned for 2027, with the Kickstarter campaign remaining open until 17th September 2026.
